History
The Southern Texas PGA is a “Section” of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America. The PGA of America was founded in 1916 and as we celebrate our 93rd Anniversary the principles that led to the formation of the organization are still what drive us today. Recognizing the passion that millions share for golf, the PGA of America – through its more than 28,000 men and women Professionals – has dedicated itself to the growth of the game.
The Southern Texas Section is an outgrowth of the original Texas Section PGA founded in 1922 in Houston and divided because it became too large for efficient operation. The Southern Texas Section was started by the State of Texas as a separate Section of the PGA September 30, 1968 and registered as a non-profit Texas corporation. Its territory covers all of Texas south of the 31st degree latitude.
As part of the Southern Texas PGA Section’s contribution to the national efforts, the Southern Texas PGA Foundation was formed in 1994. The STPGA Foundation is recognized by the IRS as a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization and is dedicated to providing the youth in south Texas broad opportunities to experience the game of golf and enhance their skills as players and individuals.
