Lonny Alexander wins 2010 Club Car Memorial Championship

It's Lonny at the top

Lonny Alexander scored birdies on the 34th and 35th holes of the 2010 Club Car Memorial Championship to take his first major Southern Texas PGA championship title since the 2007 STPGA Professional Championship.

The two birdies allowed Alexander to survive a round in which he had suffered three bogeys and a double bogey on the AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio, which gave up only 10 rounds of par or better throughout the tournament. The average 18-hole score for the tournament was 81.23.

“I kind of judge the quality of the course by the scores,” said Alexander, “and that shows it was the toughest course we’ve played in a while. To win against a field like the one in this tournament makes you feel pretty good."

“I was hot, tired and beat up (when I got to the 16th hole in the second round), but I happened to see a scoreboard and that kind of rejuvenated me for the last few holes,” Alexander added. The lone golfer to finish under par, Alexander tallied a 36-hole total of 1-under-par 71-72—143 to win the Club Car championship by 2 strokes over Jesse Horner, who finished at 71-74—145. Alexander’s prize was a $2,600 first place check; Horner earned $2,000 for finishing second.

Three golfers finished in a tie for third place. Allen Hodde, who charged into position with four birdies in a row and a par on the last five holes of the tournament, and James Brown both posted scores of 76-70—146, while Tim Thelen finished at 72-74—146. All three earned winnings of $1,166.67.

Another trio of professionals tied for sixth place at 147 and won $750 each. David von Hoffman went 76-71 for his share of the tie. Brad Lardon weighed in at 74-73 and Jaron Meeks finished at 72-75.

Robert Thompson carded a 73-73—146 total to win the tournament’s Senior competition and $1,400. Steve Parker and Troy Schleicher went 74-75—149 and 71-78—140 for a second place tie and $700 each in winnings.
