Texas Senior Open
2010 Texas Senior Open just over the horizon

The 2010 Texas Senior Open will be held Sept. 22-24 on the Forest Course at The Clubs of Kingwood. While this will be the third year in a row the championship has been played on the Forest Course, much about gaining entry into the tournament has changed.


If you’re aged 50 or above as of Sept. 22 and plan to play in Texas’ biggest senior golf tournament, you need to read the following carefully.

For starters, there will be no slate of pre-tournament qualifiers as in the past. The only open qualifying event will be a “Last Chance” qualifier, which will take place on Sept. 19 at the Forest Course. The championship field will be limited to 132 golfers (the final 12 spots will go to golfers competing in the “Last Chance Qualifier).

Golfers in a number of exempt categories will be given priority entry status and will have a month of extra time to enter before the field is opened to general entries. Those enjoying exemptions will be given priority in the following manner.
  1. Past Texas Senior Open champions.
  2. Players who finished in the top 20 of the 2009 Texas Senior Open.
  3. Current members in good standing of the Southern Texas PGA or Northern Texas PGA.
  4. Current regular or veteran members of the PGA Champions Tour who are residents of Texas.
  5. Non-PGA Professionals and amateurs who are members of the STPGA Bridgestone Golf Seniors Series or the NTPGA Senior Associates Tour.
  6. Any professional or amateur who qualified for the final field of the 2010 U.S. Senior Open and is a resident of Texas.
Entry for the exempt categories will open on July 1, 2010. General entries for all other golfers will open on Aug. 1, 2010. Entry details and forms will be posted on the tournament web page as of those dates.
