Limited entry opportunities still available for 2010 STPGA Professional Championship
The 2010 Southern Texas PGA Professional Championship is coming up quickly— the dates are Sept. 27-29 and the location is Miramont Country Club in Bryan.
Those who entered the PGA Professional National Championship by the July 7 are also entered into the STPGA Professional Championship. To complete the entry process, however, those who entered through PGA headquarters must now register through the Section and pay an additional $150 entry fee for the STPGA Professional Championship.
The deadline for entering the STPGA Professional Championship (only) is Sept. 15, 2010, and the entry fee is $260. The field of the tournament is limited and the spots remaining limited, so those interested in playing in the championship are encouraged to act quickly.
Those eligible to enter the 54-hole STPGA Professional Championship are Life Members, Class A Members and Master Professionals. Those playing in the Section tournament will receive two MSR hours.
In addition to determining the Section’s champion golfer of the year, the STPGA Professional Championship will serve as the qualifying event for the 44th PGA Professional National Championship, to be held June 26-29, 2011, on the East and West Courses at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa.
Tim Thelen won the 2009 STPGA Professional Championship by six strokes over David Von Hoffman and Ryan Polzin. Thelen went 70-70-66—206, 7-under-par for the golf course at Boot Ranch, to win his second consecutive STPGA Professional Championship and third overall. He earned $7,750 for the victory.
Von Hoffman and Polzin posted 1-under-par totals of 68-74-70—212 and 71-70-71—212, respectively, earning runners-up checks of $5.250.
Play in the 2010 STPGA Professional Championship will also determine the final makeup of the 2010 STPGA Texas Joe Black Cup Matches team, and will be the last event in which points toward entry into the 2010 STPGA Match Play Championship may be earned.
The Northern Texas PGA will host the 2010 Texas Joe Black Cup Matches Oct. 31-Nov. 2 at Four Seasons Resort in Irving. The 2010 STPGA Match Play Championship will take place Oct. 25-26 at Whispering Pines Golf Club.
