Juniors Invited to Administaff Small Business Classic Junior Pro-Am

Administaff Small Business Classic Junior Pro-Am set for Oct. 19

Thanks to the continuing partnership between the Southern Texas PGA and the Administaff Small Business Classic, a select group of three dozen of the STPGA’s junior golfers will have the opportunity to play golf with a PGA Champions Tour professional.

PGA Champions Tour professionals Chip Beck and Phil Blackmar conducted a clinic following last year's Administaff Small Business Classic Junior Pro-Am.
The 36 youngsters (see below) received invitations to play in the 2010 Administaff Small Business Classic Junior Pro-Am as a result of their play in the 2010 STPGA Academy Sports + Outdoors Junior Tour and Little Linksters Championships. Those two tournaments marked the culmination of the STPGA Academy Sports & Outdoors Junior Golf programs for the summer.

The Junior Pro-Am will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 19, three days prior to the first round of the Houston’s PGA Champions Tour event— the 2010 Administaff Small Business Classic will take place Oct. 22-24 on The Woodlands Country Club’s Tournament Course, which will also host the Junior Pro-Am.

The juniors will be grouped into foursomes and accompanied by a Champions Tour professional during the Junior Pro-Am for nine holes of golf.

“All the junior events connected with the Administaff Small Business Classic have turned out to be extremely popular,” said Anne Jenkins, volunteer coordinator for the PGA Champions Tour event. “The kids love playing with the professionals, of course, and their parents love the idea of their youngsters having that opportunity."

“The Champions Tour professionals are really giving the kids a playing lesson rather than just

playing golf with them. They enjoy it just as much as the kids, but their clinic after the pro-am and the STPGA’s ‘free lessons’ clinic following that is just as much fun,” Jenkins added. “It’s really a great experience for everyone involved."

The Junior Pro-Am will begin with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. A pair of Champions Tour professionals will conduct an hour-long clinic following play in the pro-am, and the Southern Texas PGA will conduct a special “Play Golf America” free lessons program following the clinic during which a number of STPGA professionals will give free 10-minute lessons to junior golfers. That activity should begin around 4 p.m. will last as long as necessary.

No tickets are required to watch the Junior Pro-Am or to take part in the clinics. Interested golfers need simply to show up and sign up for lessons, which will be given on a first come, first serve basis.
