Hutton, 22 years old, is a native of Ridgewood, N.J. He has played golf since he was five years old. Hutton played competitive golf as a junior, including a stint on his high school team, but “switched to the business side” when he went to college.
“I’m very excited about making Houston and the Southern Texas PGA my new home,” said Hutton of the first full-time position of his career. “I know the STPGA is filled with great golf professionals who are dedicated to helping the Section’s junior golf program be the best it can be, and it shows."
He’ll graduate from Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C., this coming December, earning a degree of Bachelor of Business Administration. He will graduate from the PGA of America’s Professional Golf Management Program at the same time. His first few months on the STPGA staff will fulfill his final PGA Golf Management internship requirement.
Hutton comes very well prepared for the challenges of managing the biggest junior golf program in Texas. His education and experience includes stints as an intern on the staffs at Morris County Golf Club in Morristown, N.J., and at Moon Valley Golf Country Club in Phoenix, Ariz.
He spent the past two summers working as an intern with the PGA Junior Series, which operates nine or 10 junior tournaments for youngsters ages 13-18 across the country. While the Southern Texas PGA junior golf operation is a bit more extensive, Hutton seems equally well prepared for the wider range of age groups and larger number of youngsters and tournaments he’ll be deadline with in southern Texas.
In addition to an older brother and sister, Hutton’s extended family includes no less than 20 foster children his parents brought into their home, beginning when Hutton was around five.
“It’s safe to say I’m accustomed to being around children,” says Hutton, who served as student body president at Methodist University during his senior year, “and everything that goes with them."
“I think the excitement of seeing them play well is what I enjoy most about working with juniors,” said Hutton. “That and knowing your giving youngsters something they can do the rest of their lives makes the work fun and enjoyable."
Hutton can be reached at the Section office . . . his new e-mail address is thutton@pgahq.com. |
