--- Danny Edwards of Green Acres, Florida captured the Veterans Division title at the 22nd
Lone Star NGL Texas Senior Open presented by S & B and Vortech Contracting after firing a 27-hole total of 104 (-5).
“I was pretty consistent all the way around,” said Edwards. “It is a nice little victory to savor. I haven’t played much golf the past couple of years, and it was nice to come down and play as well as I did.”
Round 1 resumed at 9:00 a.m. After the round was complete, players were repaired by score and began Round 2, at 9-hole stipulated round, at 2:00 p.m. The Veterans Division of the Senior Open was contested as a 27-hole Championship.
Round 2 of the Senior Division was suspended at 5:10 p.m. due to darkness. Play will resume on Friday, November 9 at 9:00 a.m. Once the round is complete, a cut to the low 30 and ties will occur.
Ron Schroeder of Montgomery, Texas leads the Senior Division after carding an opening round of 66, 5-under par. He recorded seven birdies on the round, with four coming on his back nine. John Ross of Freeman, West Virginia, and Gary Rusnak of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida sit one stroke behind Schroeder at 4-under par.
The Lone Star Texas Senior Open is being contested at Eagle Pointe Golf Club, a 6,467-yard, par 71 layout. This marks the fifth consecutive year the Club is hosting the prestigious senior championship. The purse for the Lone Star NGL Texas Senior Open is a record $49,500. With his win, Edwards took home a check for $1,600.
