HOCKLEY, TEXAS (March 19, 2018) –
The Southern Texas PGA hosted its second major of 2018 – the Club Car Memorial Championship presented by PXG and PGA TOUR - on March 19-20 at The Clubs at Houston Oaks. Pablo del Olmo (The Woodlands Golf Performance Center) made birdie on the first playoff hole against Rufus Brijalba (The Hills GC) to earn his first Section title.
“The course suited my game,” said del Olmo. “ I gave a few away, but overall played well. I had no idea there was going to be a playoff until the last putt. I have mixed emotions with this win since I haven’t won a tournament in what feels like 50 years.”
Del Olmo went bogey-free in his final nine holes of regulation to finish the two-day event with a total of 142 (E). Wildcat GC’s Dylan Newman and Garrett Driver finished tied for third after recording a total of 143 (+1).
Robert Thompson (Whispering Pines GC), the 2010 Champion and 2017 OMEGA Senior Player of the Year, battled the wind to finish first in the Senior Division with a two-day total of 145 (+3).
“I hung in there today,” said Thompson. “I made a lot of good saves for par even with how the wind was blowing. I was very fortunate to come out on top today.”
A special thanks to Club Car as well as presenting partners PXG and PGA TOUR. Thank you to The Clubs at Houston Oaks PGA Director of Golf Darren Howard and the entire staff for making it such a successful event.
