Thompson Repeats at the 2018 Southern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship

THE WOODLANDS, TX ---  Defending champion Robert Thompson, PGA Teaching Professional at Whispering Pines Golf Club, repeated at the 2018 Southern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship supported by Golf Advisors and John Deere. He carded only one bogey over the 36-hole event for a total of 138 (-6). This Championship marks the fifth for Thompson in the last nine years (2010, 2014-15, 2017-18).
 
“I was looking at that [past champions] and was thinking it would be pretty cool to win five Section Championships and five Senior Championships,” said Thompson. “It was one of my goals coming into this event.”
 
Mike Kullberg (Sterling Country Club at Houston National) and Billy Sitton (Triumph Golf LLC) finished tied for second with a total of 139 (-5), followed by Darrell Fuston and Troy Schleicher both from the Woodlands Country Club who tied for fourth with a two-day total of 141 (-3).
 
Thompson will lead six other STPGA Members to the 30th Senior PGA Professional Championship supported by Golf Advisor and John Deere on October 25-28, 2018 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Joining Thompson will be Sitton, Kullberg, Schleicher, Fuston, Tim Hobby (The Club at Sonterra), and Carl Baker (Life Member).

The 2018 Southern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship supported by Golf Advisor and John Deere was contested at The Golf Trails of The Woodlands - Oaks Course, a 6,684-yard, par 72 course located in The Woodlands, Texas. The 40-player field competed for a purse of $7,150.
