For Jim, golf has never been just a profession—it has been a lifelong calling shaped by gratitude, purpose, and an unwavering belief in the impact a great Golf Professional can have on a community. From the first days he learned the game as a young caddie to his 16-plus years leading the golf operation at San Antonio Country Club, Jim has poured his heart into every role, every member interaction, and every opportunity to advance the game he loves.

Today, as Director of Golf at San Antonio Country Club, Jim has become one of the Section’s most respected golf professionals. Under his leadership, SACC has seen remarkable growth across all areas of the operation: dramatic increases in rounds played, sold-out tournaments, surging engagement among both the Men’s and Women’s Golf Associations, and a 35% rise in golf shop sales. These accomplishments reflect not only his operational excellence, but the culture he has built—one grounded in visibility, warmth, accountability, and the belief that a golf professional’s greatest responsibility is to enrich the lives of members, guests, and staff every single day.

Jim’s influence reaches far beyond his home club. He has served the Southern Texas PGA through board appointments, the Special Awards Committee, leadership in Junior Golf, hosting numerous Section and Prestige Tour events, and organizing the STPGA Junior Golf Summit. In the broader community, he has been a champion for junior golf—supporting high school teams, welcoming collegiate programs, creating opportunities for First Tee participants, and co-hosting the Brady-Nittoli Pro-Junior, which has raised more than $300,000. His leadership is grounded in example: showing young professionals how to act, how to serve, and how to represent the PGA with integrity and pride.

At the heart of Jim’s story is family. His wife Kelley—herself a golf professional when they met—has been his anchor through every chapter of his life. Their two children, both scratch golfers, share the same passion for the game, and their family traditions on the course are among Jim’s most treasured memories. The lessons he learned from his father—to do things correctly, to give 100 percent, and to earn every success—shape how he leads, teaches, and lives.

For Jim, being a PGA Member is more than a career. It is a calling, a privilege, and a reflection of the values he carries into every interaction: energy, dedication, generosity, and a deep respect for the profession. His love for the game has inspired generations of players and professionals, and his leadership continues to strengthen the fabric of the Southern Texas PGA.

For his lifelong service, his exemplary leadership, and his profound impact on golf in the Section and beyond, the Southern Texas PGA proudly recognizes Jim Nittoli as the 2025 Golf Professional of the Year.

Today, as Director of Instruction at Royal Oaks Country Club and a PGA Member since 2017, Derek has built a reputation as a respected coach, mentor, and leader dedicated to helping others reach their potential both on and off the course.

Derek’s path to becoming a golf professional was far from predetermined. After investing five years into becoming a schoolteacher, he made the life-shaping decision to pursue a career in golf instead. It was a leap that required courage and belief in his own direction—qualities he continues to model for his students and peers. Throughout every transition and every new chapter, his wife Kelly has been his constant source of support. Derek credits her with reinforcing the most meaningful lesson in his life: that success is built through shared commitment and resilience.

As a coach, Derek believes that improvement in golf—and in life—comes from attention to the details. His personal motto, “How you do the little things is how you do everything,” guides both his instruction and his leadership. He approaches coaching with patience, curiosity, and a commitment to lifelong learning, ensuring that every golfer he works with receives guidance tailored to their individual needs and goals.

Derek’s influence extends well beyond his home facility. His contributions to teaching and coaching education reflect a deep commitment to elevating the profession and serving his fellow PGA Members. He has presented at the STPGA Teaching and Coaching Summit, served as Co-Chair of the PGA National Teaching and Coaching Committee, contributed to the Characteristics of the Ideal Golf Coach education series on PGA.Coach, supported the STPGA Mentor Program, developed peer learning opportunities through the STPGA Elite Coaches Group, and organized professional education experiences for coaches across the Section.

For Derek, golf has given him lifelong friendships, meaningful challenges, global opportunities, and a fulfilling career—all of which strengthen his dedication to giving back to the game. Looking ahead, he aims to continue expanding programming at Royal Oaks to support both player development and coaching excellence, while remaining a mentor and resource within the broader PGA community.

For his steadfast leadership, his commitment to coaching education, and his impact on players and professionals throughout the Section, the Southern Texas PGA is proud to recognize Derek Hooper as the 2025 Harvey Penick Teacher of the Year.

  • For nearly four decades, Jimmy Terry, PGA, has devoted his life to the game of golf and to the people who shape it. Elected to PGA Membership in 1987, Jimmy’s career has been defined by service—service to his facilities, his fellow Professionals, and to the communities that golf brings together. Elected to PGA Membership in 1987, Jimmy’s career has been defined by service—service to his facilities, his fellow Professionals, and to the communities that golf brings together. From his earliest days in the Southern Texas PGA Section to leadership roles shaping nationally significant golf destinations, Jimmy has built a legacy rooted in humility, mentorship, and an unwavering commitment to the profession.

Jimmy’s journey into golf began unexpectedly. As a multi-sport athlete, he envisioned a path defined by football, basketball, and baseball. But a severe knee injury at sixteen altered the course of his life. What felt like loss at the time ultimately became the opening to an entirely new future. The months of recovery that followed led him to golf—a game that accepted him where he was and allowed him to grow at his own pace. Jimmy has long said that God used that moment to redirect his life’s purpose, a belief that continues to anchor his perspective and leadership today.

Over the years, Jimmy has led at every level of the profession. In the Southern Texas PGA, he served as an officer at both the Chapter and Section levels, including as Section Secretary and Vice President. His contributions extended nationally through his work as Senior Director of PGA Golf Properties, where he oversaw transformational projects such as the revitalization of PGA Golf Club in Florida, restorations at Valhalla Golf Club in preparation for a PGA Championship, and the early vision and development of PGA Frisco—now the home of the PGA of America. Earlier in his career, he helped establish TPC San Antonio as a premier TOUR venue, and today, he serves as Vice President of Development for The Travis Club, guiding the creation of a world-class golf and residential community in Central Texas.

Yet, when Jimmy reflects on the accomplishments of his career, he does not point to championships, facilities, or awards. He points to people. He speaks of colleagues who became family, mentors who changed his path, and young Professionals who grew under his guidance. He believes that golf is not just a game, but a ministry—a place where character is revealed, humility is learned, and grace is practiced daily. His leadership has always been steady, relationship-centered, and grounded in faith.

Beyond the course, Jimmy cherishes time with his wife, Rose, their family, the mountains, a good glass of wine, books that stretch the mind, and the quiet rhythms of daily life. As he enters what he warmly calls the “fourth quarter,” his focus is on finishing well—serving generously, giving back to the profession that shaped him, and being present for the people he loves most.

For his lifelong service, his leadership across the PGA of America, and his steadfast commitment to the values that define our profession, the Southern Texas PGA is honored to recognize Jimmy Terry as the 2025 Dick Forester Quarter Century Award recipient
