Droemer and Jurgensen Capture Titles at 2026 Huntington Bank Spring Classic

PEARLAND, TX (April 15, 2026) — The Southern Texas PGA Major season opened with drama and momentum at Golfcrest Country Club, where Jesse Droemer, PGA, and Steve Jurgensen, PGA, captured their respective division titles at the 2026 Huntington Bank Spring Classic, held over the last two days.
The Open Division delivered a thrilling finish as Jesse Droemer, PGA Teaching Professional at Riverbend Country Club, secured the championship at 6-under-par following a playoff against David von Hoffmann, PGA Director of Golf at Spanish Oaks Golf Club. The two competitors replayed the iconic 18th hole to determine the champion after a tightly contested final round, where Droemer carded a steady two-putt par to decide the title.
David von Hoffmann began Round Two tied for third before quickly surging into the lead after birdieing three of his first four holes. His early charge applied pressure throughout the round and set the tone for a dramatic finish. Meanwhile, Droemer, who began the day tied for fifth, battled through adversity after an early setback with a double bogey on Hole #7 before mounting a late push when it mattered most. A stretch of birdies on Holes 15, 16, and 17 ignited Droemer’s charge and ultimately forced the playoff showdown on the finishing hole.

“I love this golf course so much,” said Droemer. “I played it hundreds of times, so it’s a place that feels really familiar to me. After a tough start, I was able to settle in and make some birdies coming in. David and I have played a lot of golf together, and he’s a great competitor, so I was comfortable being out there with him. I also put a new putter in the bag this week, and it worked out really well. This tournament was a good test to see where my game is heading into Bandon.”
With mild temperatures and only a light drizzle during the opening round, players were greeted with near-perfect scoring conditions on Tuesday, creating an ideal stage for the season’s first Major championship finish.
In the Senior Division, Steve Jurgensen, PGA Teaching Professional at Westwood Golf Club, delivered a commanding performance to claim the title by six strokes, finishing the championship at 8-under-par. After beginning the championship tied for the lead following Round One, Jurgensen maintained control throughout the final day by staying committed to a steady, disciplined approach on a course he knows well.
“Winning or not isn’t really my focus,” said Jurgensen. “The more I can stay committed to my process and focus on one shot at a time, the better things tend to work out. This tournament came at the perfect time and helped confirm that I’m on the right track heading into Bandon.”
For both champions, the victories carry added significance as Droemer and Jurgensen now turn their focus to representing the First Community STPGA Team at the upcoming PGA Professional Championship at Bandon Dunes, where their strong performances at Golfcrest serve as confirmation that their preparation is trending in the right direction.

The PGA Professional Championship will be hosted at Bandon Dunes from April 26-29, where Jesse and Steve will lead 9 other STPGA Professionals against PGA Professionals from across all 41 Sections vying for a spot in the 2026 PGA Championship.
Special thanks are also extended to Huntington Bank, title partner of the championship, and to presenting partners Club Car, TRUElinkswear, Texoma Golf, Tournament Solutions, Flyway Hats, Perry Weather, and Donald Ross Sportswear for their continued support of Southern Texas PGA Major Championships.
