Droemer Prevails in Playoff, Uresti Dominates the Field in First Major of 2023

Southern Texas PGA • April 5, 2023

AUSTIN, TEXAS (April 4, 2023) - Leading the competition to a playoff, Jesse Droemer, PGA Assistant Professional at Lakeside Country Club, ends up on top with a birdie over Roland Thatcher, PGA Director of Golf at The Woodlands Country Club to claim the 2023 TPx Player’s Cup victory.

“I just had to stay present today,” said Droemer. “The course was playing really difficult, the conditions were windy, the hole locations were tough, so I was just trying to stay patient and take my time.”

Following a tense final round, which saw multiple lead changes and only 7 birdies between the two, Droemer and Thatcher found themselves atop the leaderboard with a tournament total of even-par 142, three strokes better than the rest of the field. Droemer stuck his second shot to ten feet from the hole and managed to two putt for birdie, winning the hole and the overall title. This marks Droemer’s third Major win with the Section, his latest claim at the 2022 Memorial Championship.

“My goal is to play all the Section events, make it to the 2024 PGA Professional Championship and be 2023 Player of the Year,” said Droemer.

The TPx Player’s Cup also included a Senior Division for PGA Professionals aged 50 and over. Omar Uresti, PGA Life Member, swept the field both days, carding a 65 on the first day and following it up with a 64 in his final round for a tournament total of 129 (-13).. He successfully defended his 2022 title, which also marks his third victory in the senior division, and fourth overall victory for the Major, with a 14 stroke deficit.

“I felt like I had a good rhythm with the windy conditions,” said Uresti. “I feel like I play pretty well in the wind, especially on shorter courses where I hit a lot of mid to low irons, so I was very fortunate today.”

This was the first Major Championship in 2023 for the Southern Texas PGA and was contested at Great Hills Country Club, a par 71, 6,635-yard facility. Headed by title partner, TPx, this year’s Championship also featured presenting partners Birdie Box, Blue Delta Jeans, BlueGolf, GT Golf Supplies, Nexbelt, Prize Possessions, Radmor, and StrackaLine. This event featured a total purse of $33,000 for Open Division and $6,750 for Senior Division.

PEARLAND, TX (April 15, 2026) — The Southern Texas PGA Major season opened with drama and momentum at Golfcrest Country Club, where Jesse Droemer, PGA, and Steve Jurgensen, PGA, captured their respective division titles at the 2026 Huntington Bank Spring Classic, held over the last two days. The Open Division delivered a thrilling finish as Jesse Droemer, PGA Teaching Professional at Riverbend Country Club, secured the championship at 6-under-par following a playoff against David von Hoffmann, PGA Director of Golf at Spanish Oaks Golf Club. The two competitors replayed the iconic 18th hole to determine the champion after a tightly contested final round, where Droemer carded a steady two-putt par to decide the title. David von Hoffmann began Round Two tied for third before quickly surging into the lead after birdieing three of his first four holes. His early charge applied pressure throughout the round and set the tone for a dramatic finish. Meanwhile, Droemer, who began the day tied for fifth, battled through adversity after an early setback with a double bogey on Hole #7 before mounting a late push when it mattered most. A stretch of birdies on Holes 15, 16, and 17 ignited Droemer’s charge and ultimately forced the playoff showdown on the finishing hole.
