Hiller Leads the 51st STPGA Professional Championship After Round One

RICHMOND, TEXAS --- Greg Hiller, PGA Director of Instruction at TPC San Antonio, sits atop of the leaderboard after shooting an opening round of 70 (-2) at the 51st Southern Texas PGA Championship presented by Cadillac, Club Car, Nine Iron Wines, and OMEGA.

Five PGA Professionals sit just one stroke back at one-under-par. Craig Hicks, PGA Head Professional at Eagle Pointe Golf Club, Robert Scott, PGA Teaching Professional at Royal Oaks Country Club, Darrell Fuston, PGA Director of Golf at The Woodlands Country Club, Robert Thompson, PGA Teaching Professional at Whispering Pines Golf Club, and Ben Kern, PGA Head Professional at Georgetown Country Club, all fired rounds of 71.

The field is competing for seven qualifying spots into the 2020 PGA Professional Championship presented by Cadillac, Club Car, and OMEGA. The Championship will be contested April 26-29, 2020 at Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin. Casey Russell, PGA Head Professional at Golfcrest Country Club, is automatically exempt into the 2020 PGA Professional Championship with his top-20 finish at the 2019 PGA Professional Championship at Belfair in May. Omar Uresti is also exempt into the 2020 event after winning the Championship in 2017.

This 54-hole event is the final of five individual stroke play championships that comprise the OMEGA Player of the Year Points List. It also serves as a qualifier to earn points towards making the 2019 Texas Joe Black Cup Matches team and Levy Cup Matches team.

The Southern Texas PGA Professional Championship presented by Cadillac, Club Car, and OMEGA is being hosted at Shadow Hawk Golf Club, a 7,207-yard, par 72 layout that will play at 7,046-yards for this week’s Championship. This marks the first time Shadow Hawk Golf Club has hosted a Major Championship for the Section.

AUSTIN, TEXAS (August 26) — The 2025 TPx Player’s Cup concluded today at Austin Country Club, where the Section’s top professionals battled across two competitive divisions — Senior and Open — for one of the Southern Texas PGA’s most prestigious titles. In the Senior Division, Steve Jurgensen, PGA Teaching Professional at Westwood Golf Club, delivered a wire-to-wire victory, finishing at 3-under-par for the championship after rounds of 69-72. HOUSTON, TEXAS (August 18, 2025) – Mother Nature had different plans at Champions Golf Club, where drawn-out lightning delays ultimately forced the cancellation of Round Two and shortened the 2025 Southern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship to 18 holes. Taking advantage of his strong opening round, Jake Sitterle, Assistant Professional at Lakecliff Country Club, earned the victory with a score of 70 (-1) on the par-71 layout, securing his place at this year’s champion. “This wasn’t the way anyone wanted this championship to end. Gilbert was playing great in the second round, but I am happy I could get the win,” Sitterle reflected. “With how the last major ended, I was always confident in my game and that I could be up at the top, but this field is strong, and I just wish all the guys who qualified the best of luck.” The tournament, hosted at Champions Golf Club, featured over 50 Assistant Professionals from across the Section, competing for qualifying spots into the Assistant PGA Professional Championship, set to be played at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, November 13-16, 2025.

HOUSTON, TX (July 22, 2025) – Omar Uresti, PGA Life Member, claimed victory at the 2025 Southern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship, firing rounds of 67-73–140 ( -4 ) at Bay Oaks Country Club to secure the title of Senior Section Champion. This is Uresti's Fourth Senior Championship, with his last win coming in 2023. This year’s championship served a dual purpose, determining not only the Southern Texas PGA Senior Champion but also acting as the Section’s qualifier for the 2025 Senior PGA Professional Championship, to be held at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, later this fall. "It feels good to come out and get a win against a strong field and a tough golf course. The first round I was hitting good shots and making good putts, but today wasn't the same, and I had to balance my mental game a little bit throughout the ups and downs," said Uresti. In the final round, Uresti needed to battle back after a slow start on the front nine with 3 bogeys, but took the lead with 1 eagle and 2 birdies on the back nine to secure the win. The leaderboard finished with Uresti winning by three over Billy Sitton, PGA Executive from Triumph Golf, and four over Darrell Fuston, PGA General Manager from Westwood Golf Club. Heading into the tournament, Uresti, Robert Thompson, PGA, and Eric Bogar, PGA, were already exempt.
