Junior Pro-Am continues while new activation comes to the Srixon Billiard Factory Prestige Tour and College Scholarship Program!

SPRING, TX (August 30) - The Southern Texas PGA is excited to announce an expanded partnership with the Insperity Invitational presented by UnitedHealthcare, the annual PGA TOUR Champions event held each spring at The Woodlands Country Club Tournament Course. This expanded relationship keeps the highly sought after Junior Pro-Am experience in place and adds two new elements of involvement with the Srixon Billiard Factory Prestige Tour and STPGA College Scholarship program.

The Insperity Invitational presented by UnitedHealthcare will become the new Title Sponsor of the Insperity Invitational Points List for the Srixon Billiard Factory Prestige Tour, and starting in the summer of 2024, the STPGA will commence a new event called the Insperity Invitational Tour Championship for the Srixon Billiard Factory Prestige Tour.

At the end of the calendar year, the top-2 players with the most points in the Boys 13-18 and Girls 13-18 divisions on the Insperity Invitational Points List will earn an exemption to play in the Junior Pro-Am the week of the PGA TOUR Champions event the following spring! These four juniors will get to experience playing 9-holes with a PGA TOUR Champions professional at The Woodlands Country Club Tournament Course.

“The Southern Texas PGA Junior Golf Program continues to provide high quality events for juniors of all ages, and we are happy to see our partnership grow,” said Bryan Naugle, Executive Director for the Insperity Invitational. “The growth that has taken place with the Prestige Tour is remarkable and this adds a new element of involvement between both of our organizations.”

Additionally, the Southern Texas PGA will commence a new event called the Insperity Invitational Tour Championship starting in 2024. The STPGA will announce exemptions, the location, and date for the 2024 event later this fall. The goal with this new event is to showcase our event winners, high point list achieves, and provide a world class experience at a great facility.

“We could not be more excited to offer these new opportunities to STPGA Junior Golfers,” said Thomas Hutton, Executive Director of the STPGA. “The Insperity Invitational is one of our most tenured partners, dating back to 2007, and these new elements continue to showcase their desire and support to help impact the next generation of junior golfers!”

In addition, the Insperity Invitational will also commence a new college scholarship through the STPGA’s Scholarship Program. At next year’s event, 1 Boy and 1 Girl from the STPGA will receive the first ever Insperity Invitational College Scholarship, each worth $10,000 to continue their educational aspirations. More details on the criteria will be announced when the 2024 STPGA Scholarship Program opens for applications in January.

“Insperity Invitational understands the meaning of giving back and growing the game,” said Hutton. “Today’s announcement showcases them as a true partner that believes in junior golf as well as educating the next generation.”

Today’s announcement also includes the continued opportunity for STPGA Junior Golfers to earn a spot in the annual Junior Pro-Am that will take place on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. This Junior Pro-Am is where 36 STPGA junior golfers will enjoy the experience of a lifetime playing 9-holes with a PGA TOUR Champions Professional. 2024 will mark the 18th time STPGA Junior Golfers will earn an exemption into this great event at The Woodlands CC - Tournament Course.

“While we are committed to giving back to the community, our PGA TOUR Champions players also see great value in supporting the Junior Pro-Am and have a ton of fun playing with the STPGA Junior Golfers!” added Naugle.

Outside of the Insperity Invitational Points List, exemptions into the Junior Pro-Am will be given out at the PGA TOUR Superstore Fall Championship by division during both the Junior Tour and Little Linksters Championships. This year’s Fall Championships will take place at Hyatt Hill Country Golf Club in San Antonio, TX December 9-10, 2023. We encourage all players to play their best this fall and try to earn a spot in the season ending Championship to then try and qualify for the Junior Pro-Am!

Good luck to all of the juniors this fall trying to earn a spot in the PGA TOUR Superstore Fall Championship and with 10 Prestige Tour events left this year, we are excited to see who will be crowned our 2023 Insperity Invitational Points List winners!

The 2024 Insperity Invitational presented by UnitedHealthcare will take place at The Woodlands Country Club Tournament Course April 29 – May 5, 2024. General grounds admission is free of charge for all and we encourage all STPGA Junior Golfers to come out and watch the best PGA TOUR Champions professionals.

COLUMBUS, TX (September 16) – Over the last two days, the Southern Texas PGA proudly hosted its premier event, the 58th STPGA Section Championship, at The Covey at Big Easy Ranch in Columbus, Texas. 112 PGA of America Members from across the Section competed in a two-day championship not only to crown the 2025 STPGA Section Champion but also served as the pathway to the national PGA Professional Championship, Player of the Year Honors, and the last opportunity to climb our points list and earn a spot on #TeamSTPGA for the Joe Black Cup Matches and Levy Cup Matches. Congratulations to Casey Russell, PGA Director of Golf at Big Easy Ranch, for winning this year’s Section Championship at Big Easy Ranch. The home-field advantage would serve Casey well as he would finish with a tournament total of 70-71–141 (-3) After round one, the leaderboard was extremely tight with a three-way tie for first at 2-under (70) between Alan Hodde, PGA Director of Instruction at Axis Golf Academy & Fitting Center, Greg Hiller, PGA Director of Instruction at TPC San Antonio, and Casey Russell, PGA, and another 16 people within three strokes of the lead. With the added pressure of a tie, Casey would be put at ease with his course knowledge and the perfect pairing to go to battle with.

HOUSTON, TEXAS (August 18, 2025) – Mother Nature had different plans at Champions Golf Club, where drawn-out lightning delays ultimately forced the cancellation of Round Two and shortened the 2025 Southern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship to 18 holes. Taking advantage of his strong opening round, Jake Sitterle, Assistant Professional at Lakecliff Country Club, earned the victory with a score of 70 (-1) on the par-71 layout, securing his place at this year’s champion. “This wasn’t the way anyone wanted this championship to end. Gilbert was playing great in the second round, but I am happy I could get the win,” Sitterle reflected. “With how the last major ended, I was always confident in my game and that I could be up at the top, but this field is strong, and I just wish all the guys who qualified the best of luck.” The tournament, hosted at Champions Golf Club, featured over 50 Assistant Professionals from across the Section, competing for qualifying spots into the Assistant PGA Professional Championship, set to be played at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, November 13-16, 2025.
