How have you implemented the American Developmental Model (ADM) at your facility?

Our team at Topgolf offers a variety of programs and lesson offerings that meet the needs of students through each stage of the development model. We are constantly innovating how our guests interact with the sport!

What differences have you seen at your facility and/or with your students since utilizing the ADM model?

Students are more engaged with enhanced programming that meets their social and developmental goals. Motivation of students in our program has also increased as they have social and competitive events to engage in that fit their stage of development!

How do you see ADM affecting the future of sports?

It is crucial to create an atmosphere that fosters growth and enjoyment of sports at all levels! ADM is designed to create a healthy sport experience and account for the student’s physical, mental, and emotional needs. Creating the correct experience and programming fosters the growth and access to sports for all!

Why would you encourage someone to obtain the ADM certificate through the PGA of America?

Never stop learning! The ADM certificate provides many unique ideas that PGA Professionals can implement into their facility programming to improve their guest satisfaction and increase overall revenue of their facility.

What benefits have you seen from setting up your PGA.Coach profile?

I have received multiple qualified leads of students that are committed to their growth and development. These students are also engaging with other programming such as club fitting, memberships, and Topgolf sponsored events.

How was your experience completing the PGA of America continuing education program and becoming a Specialized Professional?

The experience challenged me to take a deeper look into our process and goals with our instruction program at Topgolf Houston. The result achieved by implementing new programs that support the PGA’s ADM model & processes learned through the Specialized Professional program has been extremely successful!

What aspects of this program did you find interesting?

My favorite aspect of the program was the final project. The final project was an innovative way to challenge myself about a subject I was passionate about!

What is one thing that sticks out that you learned while going through the process?

Always continue to adapt to the market and implement programs meeting the needs of your students in the current climate! Golf is a sport anyone can enjoy. Covid has brought so many new people into the game and it is important to make their experience a positive one to continue the growth of the game!

How have you implemented what you learned in your day-to-day basis?

Topgolf itself is a great avenue to create positive experiences for all aspiring golfers which correlates to ADM’s goals. We have also implemented additional programming to support the ADM model here at Topgolf Houston Katy increasing the engagement of our current students.

How do you feel that being Specialized in Coaching & Teaching has strengthened you as a PGA professional?

The program allowed me to explore all different aspects of the Teaching & Coaching business. I have been able to truly define our process in our development program here at Topgolf Houston Katy and design goals to continue to push the program to the next level.

Why would you encourage others to complete the continuing education program?

The program is a great way to explore a subject you are passionate about! It challenged me to continue to define our process and goals meeting the needs of our guests and increasing overall facility revenue. The PGA education program is also a great avenue to network and share ideas with the leaders in the golf industry!

In what ways has completing the continuing education program benefited you as a PGA Professional?

The program has provided an opportunity to define our processes and programs we choose to implement at our facility leading to an increase in overall revenue & student development.

Do you plan to further your continuing education by becoming a Certified Professional?

Yes, it is important to me to always continue learning to provide the best experience for my students, guests, and associates. The golf industry is constantly evolving!

What are five words that best describe you?

Passionate, Dedicated, Motivated, Caring, Loyal

What is your favorite golf memory?

I love being part of a team atmosphere! I was fortunate to be a part of the Tulane University golf team the first year after they brought the team back from Hurricane Katrina. As a team of all freshman & sophomores we qualified for the National Championship! It was awesome to be a part of bringing the school and city of New Orleans back on the map after such a tragic event!

If you could play a round of golf with anyone, living or dead, who would it be? Why?

My grandfather who I never got the opportunity to meet as he passed at a young age. I know he was a thoughtful, caring, and loving individual. It would be a great chance to share my passion of the game and family with him!

If you could give a piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?

Stay in the moment. Life & golf can come at you with many different obstacles both positive & negative. Always be ready to step up during challenging times and enjoy every moment.

What is your personal motto?

Stick to the process!

AUSTIN, TEXAS (August 26) — The 2025 TPx Player’s Cup concluded today at Austin Country Club, where the Section’s top professionals battled across two competitive divisions — Senior and Open — for one of the Southern Texas PGA’s most prestigious titles. In the Senior Division, Steve Jurgensen, PGA Teaching Professional at Westwood Golf Club, delivered a wire-to-wire victory, finishing at 3-under-par for the championship after rounds of 69-72. Jurgensen sealed the win in dramatic fashion, rolling in a birdie on the par-5 18th to close out his championship run. Reflecting on the victory, Jurgensen said,

HOUSTON, TEXAS (August 18, 2025) – Mother Nature had different plans at Champions Golf Club, where drawn-out lightning delays ultimately forced the cancellation of Round Two and shortened the 2025 Southern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship to 18 holes. Taking advantage of his strong opening round, Jake Sitterle, Assistant Professional at Lakecliff Country Club, earned the victory with a score of 70 (-1) on the par-71 layout, securing his place at this year’s champion. “This wasn’t the way anyone wanted this championship to end. Gilbert was playing great in the second round, but I am happy I could get the win,” Sitterle reflected. “With how the last major ended, I was always confident in my game and that I could be up at the top, but this field is strong, and I just wish all the guys who qualified the best of luck.” The tournament, hosted at Champions Golf Club, featured over 50 Assistant Professionals from across the Section, competing for qualifying spots into the Assistant PGA Professional Championship, set to be played at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, November 13-16, 2025.

HOUSTON, TX (July 22, 2025) – Omar Uresti, PGA Life Member, claimed victory at the 2025 Southern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship, firing rounds of 67-73–140 ( -4 ) at Bay Oaks Country Club to secure the title of Senior Section Champion. This is Uresti's Fourth Senior Championship, with his last win coming in 2023. This year’s championship served a dual purpose, determining not only the Southern Texas PGA Senior Champion but also acting as the Section’s qualifier for the 2025 Senior PGA Professional Championship, to be held at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, later this fall. "It feels good to come out and get a win against a strong field and a tough golf course. The first round I was hitting good shots and making good putts, but today wasn't the same, and I had to balance my mental game a little bit throughout the ups and downs," said Uresti. In the final round, Uresti needed to battle back after a slow start on the front nine with 3 bogeys, but took the lead with 1 eagle and 2 birdies on the back nine to secure the win. The leaderboard finished with Uresti winning by three over Billy Sitton, PGA Executive from Triumph Golf, and four over Darrell Fuston, PGA General Manager from Westwood Golf Club. Heading into the tournament, Uresti, Robert Thompson, PGA, and Eric Bogar, PGA, were already exempt. The five additional qualifiers are: Billy Sitton, PGA Golf Executive at Triumph Golf Darrell Fuston, PGA General Manager at Westwood Golf Club Darek Franklin, PGA Assistant Professional at Austin Golf Club Steve Jurgensen, PGA Teaching Professional at Westwood Golf Club David von Hoffman, PGA Director of Golf at Spanish Oaks Golf Club
