HOUSTON, TEXAS (July 23, 2024)  - Steve Jurgensen, PGA claims the Southern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship title, finishing with a total score of 67-71–138 at Bay Oaks Country Club.

In his first round, Jurgensen carded seven birdies to secure a three stroke lead with a 18-hole total of (-5) 67. Greg Hiller, PGA Director of Instruction at TPC San Antonio, sat just behind him at (-2) 70.

Hiller would take the lead by one stroke heading into the back nine of the final round. A fierce back and forth battle then ensued between Hiller and Jurgensen for the remainder of the day.  Hiller would take a two-stroke lead early on the back nine, then a birdie on hole 13 followed by an eagle on hole 16 would give Jurgensen the lead going into the final hole.

A Jurgensen bogey on Hole 18 and a par from Hiller would move this Championship into a playoff. Hiller and Jurgensen would play Hole 18 three times before Steve would be crowned Champion.

"Greg played better than me today. I was tentative all day and I had one putt just to keep hanging on. I had no choice but to play something aggressive and, thankfully, I hit it well and it gave me an opportunity" said Jurgensen.

"Steve is a real steady player and I just tried to feed off of that. We both did our thing and it was great for me to go bogey-free in the final round just being able to play more relaxed" added Hiller.

Greg Hiller, PGA, will lead seven additional Southern Texas PGA Members to compete in the 36th Senior PGA Professional Championship on September 26-29 at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Oregon. Joining Greg will be John Gibson, PGA Assistant Professional at Memorial Park Golf Course, Darrell Fuston, PGA Head Professional at Bay Oaks Country Club, Lonny Alexander, PGA Teaching Professional at Onion Creek Golf Club, and Chad Donegan, PGA General Manager at Landa Park Golf Course.  Robert Thompson, PGA Teaching Professional at Whispering Pines Golf Club and Omar Uresti, PGA Life Member were already exempt into the Championship as Past Champions (Thompson in 2010 and Uresti in 2020, respectively) while Eric Bogar, PGA Assistant Professional at Golfcrest Country Club earned his exemption via making the 36-hole cut at the 2024 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship.

"I am just excited to going out there and playing good golf. I have played Sunriver [Resort] before so looking to go out there and play how I did today, steady and very few mistakes. Hopefully play well enough to earn the opportunity to play in the Senior PGA Championship" stated Hiller.

HOUSTON, TEXAS (August 18, 2025) – Mother Nature had different plans at Champions Golf Club, where drawn-out lightning delays ultimately forced the cancellation of Round Two and shortened the 2025 Southern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship to 18 holes. Taking advantage of his strong opening round, Jake Sitterle, Assistant Professional at Lakecliff Country Club, earned the victory with a score of 70 (-1) on the par-71 layout, securing his place at this year’s champion. “This wasn’t the way anyone wanted this championship to end. Gilbert was playing great in the second round, but I am happy I could get the win,” Sitterle reflected. “With how the last major ended, I was always confident in my game and that I could be up at the top, but this field is strong, and I just wish all the guys who qualified the best of luck.” The tournament, hosted at Champions Golf Club, featured over 50 Assistant Professionals from across the Section, competing for qualifying spots into the Assistant PGA Professional Championship, set to be played at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, November 13-16, 2025.

HOUSTON, TX (July 22, 2025) – Omar Uresti, PGA Life Member, claimed victory at the 2025 Southern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship, firing rounds of 67-73–140 ( -4 ) at Bay Oaks Country Club to secure the title of Senior Section Champion. This is Uresti's Fourth Senior Championship, with his last win coming in 2023. This year’s championship served a dual purpose, determining not only the Southern Texas PGA Senior Champion but also acting as the Section’s qualifier for the 2025 Senior PGA Professional Championship, to be held at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, later this fall. "It feels good to come out and get a win against a strong field and a tough golf course. The first round I was hitting good shots and making good putts, but today wasn't the same, and I had to balance my mental game a little bit throughout the ups and downs," said Uresti. In the final round, Uresti needed to battle back after a slow start on the front nine with 3 bogeys, but took the lead with 1 eagle and 2 birdies on the back nine to secure the win. The leaderboard finished with Uresti winning by three over Billy Sitton, PGA Executive from Triumph Golf, and four over Darrell Fuston, PGA General Manager from Westwood Golf Club. Heading into the tournament, Uresti, Robert Thompson, PGA, and Eric Bogar, PGA, were already exempt. The five additional qualifiers are: Billy Sitton, PGA Golf Executive at Triumph Golf Darrell Fuston, PGA General Manager at Westwood Golf Club Darek Franklin, PGA Assistant Professional at Austin Golf Club Steve Jurgensen, PGA Teaching Professional at Westwood Golf Club David von Hoffman, PGA Director of Golf at Spanish Oaks Golf Club
