Lundstrom & King Win the 2019 Effex Management Solutions Texas Team Championship

Southern Texas PGA • July 9, 2019

HORSESHOE BAY, TX --- The team of David Lundstrom, PGA Life Member, and Corbin King, Director of Golf at The Golf Driving Range Round Rock, were crowned the champions of the 2019 Effex Management Solutions Texas Team Championship presented by Adidas, Bushnell, Callaway, Earth Networks, E-Z-Go, Long Drive Agency, Morell Studios, Nine Iron Wines, and Pro-Am Events. Lundstrom and King fired impressive rounds of 65-61 to finish the annual event with a two-day total of 17-under-par (126).

Over the 36-hole event, Lundstrom and King made 17 birdies and at one point in the final round recorded five consecutive. This marks the third year in a row that Southern Texas PGA Professionals have won this event.

“I don’t play a lot of golf so I’m trying to get into it again,” said King. “It was great to team up with David and see him hit so many great shots. I played a little bit better yesterday than I did today. David, on the other hand, played probably as good as anyone has ever played on Ram Rock. It’s more because of him than me that we won this event.”

“It was one of those days where the putts were rolling in,” said Lundstrom. “I hit some nice shots today, so I’m going to enjoy it while it lasts.”

Lundstrom and King had a 5-stroke victory over the Preston Trail Golf Club team of Jeffrey Barton, PGA Director of Instruction, and Nic Ishee, PGA Assistant Professional, as well as the River Crest Country Club team of Reid Parrish, PGA Head Professional, and Colby Webb, Assistant Professional.

The two-man best-ball event featured a field of 88 two-man teams comprised of PGA Members and Associates from the Southern Texas and Northern Texas PGA Sections, who competed at Horseshoe Bay Resort’s Ram Rock, a 6,926-yard layout, and Summit Rock, a 7,246-yard Nicklaus design, courses. The field competed for an overall purse of $49,000, the largest purse ever given out. Lundstrom and King shared $5,400 for their victory.

After Round One, PGA Professionals enjoyed interacting with Section Partners at the highly rivaled putting contest at Whitewater Putting Course. New to this year’s event, STPGA Partner Pro-Am Events provided electronic scoring as well as a jumbotron leaderboard. Five teams tied for first place. HOUSTON, TEXAS (November 18, 2025) – The historic 45th Joe Black Cup has concluded, and we proudly congratulate Team NTPGA on securing the victory at BraeBurn Country Club with a final score of 15.5–8.5 over Team STPGA. Team NTPGA established early momentum during Day One, delivering an impressive performance in the Four-Ball and Foursomes matches, where they earned 9.5 points to build a commanding lead. Their strong play continued into the Singles matches, where they successfully held off a determined rally from Team STPGA. Throughout Tuesday’s competition, spectators were treated to a dynamic and engaging battle, with the leaderboard frequently shifting between red and blue as both teams exchanged critical points to tie the session 6-6. This year’s event was elevated by a truly memorable “Evening of Honor,” during which we welcomed and celebrated 29 Past Captains. Their presence underscored the tradition, legacy, and camaraderie that define the Texas Joe Black Cup Matches. The evening served as a powerful reminder of the event’s rich history and the influential leaders who have helped shape its enduring significance. We extend heartfelt congratulations to Team NTPGA for their outstanding performance and to both teams for exemplifying sportsmanship, competitive spirit, and pride in their respective sections. The 45th Joe Black Cup will long be remembered as a fitting tribute to the heritage of golf in Texas, Mr. Joe Black, and the individuals who continue to elevate the game. After 45 years of competition, the Northern Texas PGA now holds a 22–21–2 lead over the Southern Texas PGA in the storied history of the Joe Black Cup Matches. The 46th playing will return to Midland Country Club on November 16–17, 2026, where Team STPGA will look to reclaim the cup and bring it back to Southern Texas. A special thank you to Club Car, Srixon, Cleveland Golf, Peter Millar, and Winston Collection for their outstanding partnership and support in creating a world-class atmosphere befitting this historic 45th edition of the Matches. SPRING, TX (November 5, 2025) – After falling heartbreakingly short one year ago, Team Southern Texas PGA returned to the Levy Cup Matches with one mission: to bring the Cup home. And in one of the most dramatic finishes in event history, they did just that, defeating Team Northern Texas PGA by a single point at Gleneagles Country Club in Plano, Texas. The 9th playing of the Levy Cup Matches, held November 3–4, featured twelve PGA Professionals from each Section competing across Four-Ball, Foursomes, and Singles Matches in a spirited Ryder Cup–style format.
