New Regional Model Commences to Better Serve PGA Members and Sections

Southern Texas PGA • April 25, 2022

Kelly Gilley promoted and Doug Turner comes back!

As the PGA of America continues to strive to best serve its Members, in partnership with the 41 PGA Sections, a new regional model has commenced. The goal with this regional model is to provide more support to our PGA Professionals but in a more local manner. While the organization has many similarities across the country, this model will allow for unique aspects of service and benefit to PGA Members based on the region. Additionally, it insures more collaboration between PGA resources and the Sections in the areas of Employment, Player Development and Recruiting.

With this change, we are excited to announce that Kelly Gilley, PGA will be our Regional Director overseeing the region and employees in areas that include Career Services, Player Engagement, Recruitment, and other areas to be determined as the model expands and grows. This position will also work extremely closely with the Executive Directors from each Section and their Board of Directors to help serve our Members and grow the game.

The Southern Texas PGA is part of the Central Region with 5 other Sections. Additional Sections included are Sun Country, Northern Texas, Gateway, South Central, and Midwest. This region has over 2,200 active PGA Members and is one of 7 regions in the country.

During this transition, it is important to note that Kelly Gilley is not going away from helping and serving PGA Members. Her role is expanding outside of just Career Services but still areas that impact Sections and our Members. She will not be a stranger and you can still expect to see her at meetings and events when possible.

With Kelly’s promotion, we are excited to welcome back Doug Turner as our full time Career Services Consultant. Doug is one of the longest running Career Consultants in the country and has previously been the STPGA’s consultant before Kelly Gilley. You will be seeing Doug Turner at a lot of events this year to reconnect and understand the needs from our PGA Members from a Career Services perspective. If you need help posting jobs, career advice, ExecuSearch opportunities, please do not hesitate to reach out to Doug Turner.

In the Player Development area, Becca Bailey joined the team earlier this year and will continue to support Southern Texas PGA for PGA Junior League and other initiatives with regards to growth of the game. Last but certainly not least, Dylan Gladney is our region’s Recruiting Specialist. In this role, Dylan is keenly focused on spreading the message of why people should be joining the golf industry. He is out on the road at a wide variety of collegiate events, junior events, career fairs, and more. If you have an event that you think Dylan should be at to promote the industry and jobs, please reach out to Dylan, Kelly, or Thomas Hutton.

In closing, the STPGA fully understands that a PGA Member’s membership is local and therefore the support PGAHQ and the STPGA provides must be local. This regional model allows for resources and staff to truly be local in partnership with what the Sections are hoping to accomplish. The better aligned Sections and PGA of America are, the better we can serve you!

If you have questions or comments about this transition, please do not hesitate to reach out to Kelly Gilley or Thomas Hutton.

AUSTIN, TEXAS (August 26) — The 2025 TPx Player’s Cup concluded today at Austin Country Club, where the Section’s top professionals battled across two competitive divisions — Senior and Open — for one of the Southern Texas PGA’s most prestigious titles. In the Senior Division, Steve Jurgensen, PGA Teaching Professional at Westwood Golf Club, delivered a wire-to-wire victory, finishing at 3-under-par for the championship after rounds of 69-72. Jurgensen sealed the win in dramatic fashion, rolling in a birdie on the par-5 18th to close out his championship run. Reflecting on the victory, Jurgensen said,

HOUSTON, TEXAS (August 18, 2025) – Mother Nature had different plans at Champions Golf Club, where drawn-out lightning delays ultimately forced the cancellation of Round Two and shortened the 2025 Southern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship to 18 holes. Taking advantage of his strong opening round, Jake Sitterle, Assistant Professional at Lakecliff Country Club, earned the victory with a score of 70 (-1) on the par-71 layout, securing his place at this year’s champion. “This wasn’t the way anyone wanted this championship to end. Gilbert was playing great in the second round, but I am happy I could get the win,” Sitterle reflected. “With how the last major ended, I was always confident in my game and that I could be up at the top, but this field is strong, and I just wish all the guys who qualified the best of luck.” The tournament, hosted at Champions Golf Club, featured over 50 Assistant Professionals from across the Section, competing for qualifying spots into the Assistant PGA Professional Championship, set to be played at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, November 13-16, 2025.

HOUSTON, TX (July 22, 2025) – Omar Uresti, PGA Life Member, claimed victory at the 2025 Southern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship, firing rounds of 67-73–140 ( -4 ) at Bay Oaks Country Club to secure the title of Senior Section Champion. This is Uresti's Fourth Senior Championship, with his last win coming in 2023. This year’s championship served a dual purpose, determining not only the Southern Texas PGA Senior Champion but also acting as the Section’s qualifier for the 2025 Senior PGA Professional Championship, to be held at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, later this fall. "It feels good to come out and get a win against a strong field and a tough golf course. The first round I was hitting good shots and making good putts, but today wasn't the same, and I had to balance my mental game a little bit throughout the ups and downs," said Uresti. In the final round, Uresti needed to battle back after a slow start on the front nine with 3 bogeys, but took the lead with 1 eagle and 2 birdies on the back nine to secure the win. The leaderboard finished with Uresti winning by three over Billy Sitton, PGA Executive from Triumph Golf, and four over Darrell Fuston, PGA General Manager from Westwood Golf Club. Heading into the tournament, Uresti, Robert Thompson, PGA, and Eric Bogar, PGA, were already exempt. The five additional qualifiers are: Billy Sitton, PGA Golf Executive at Triumph Golf Darrell Fuston, PGA General Manager at Westwood Golf Club Darek Franklin, PGA Assistant Professional at Austin Golf Club Steve Jurgensen, PGA Teaching Professional at Westwood Golf Club David von Hoffman, PGA Director of Golf at Spanish Oaks Golf Club
