Schroeder Leads 24th Lone Star NGL Texas Senior Open After Day One

Schroeder leads after opening round of 65.
MONT BELVIEU, TEXAS—Ron Schroeder of Montgomery, Texas leads the field by one stroke following the opening round of the Lone Star NGL Texas Senior Open with a score of 65 (-6). Schroeder made five birdies within his first 13 holes, finishing out strong with a birdie on his 17th hole to total out today’s round at six birdies.
The 24th Lone Star NGL Texas Senior Open contested at Eagle Pointe Golf Club is presented by S & B and Vortech Contracting.
Following closely behind is a three way tie between Jim Carter of Scottsdale, Arizona, Craig Kanada of The Woodlands, Texas, and E.A. Tischler of Olympia Fields, Illinois with a round one score of 66 (-5).
This year marks the seventh consecutive year that Eagle Pointe Golf Club, a 6,740-yard, par 71 course has hosted this prestigious championship. The 54-hole stroke play event consists of 119 players from across Texas and the country, making it the largest field in the tournament’s 24-year history.
The Senior Division at the Senior Open consists of players ages 50-64 and the Super Senior Division consists of players ages 64 and over. Marshall Gavre of Green Valley, Arizona currently leads by three in the Super Senior Division after firing an opening round of 68 (-3).
“I was happy with the way I played today. I hit the ball pretty well. I made a couple of putts and missed a couple of putts,” said Gavre. “We’ll see about tomorrow. Who knows? Old guys, things could happen.”
