Southern Texas PGA Announces 2021 Cup Captains
The Texas Joe Black Cup, Levy Cup, and Texas Junior Cup Matches feature some of the best PGA Members and Junior Golfers across the Southern and Northern Texas Sections and the Southern Texas PGA is excited to announce the 2021 Captains for these Matches.
Ricky Arnett, PGA Director of Golf at Great Hills Country Club, will serve as this year’s captain of the 41st Texas Joe Black Cup Matches at Boot Ranch Golf Club in Fredericksburg, on November 15-16, 2021. This will be Arnett’s 15th year participating in the Joe Black Cup Matches and he looks to bring the cup back to the STPGA after falling to the NTPGA in 2020.
“It is a great honor to be representing the Southern Texas PGA as a Captain for the Texas Joe Black Cup Matches this year,” said Arnett. “After competing in 14 of these Matches, I am excited to lead my fellow STPGA Members and bring home this year’s cup!”
For the Levy Cup Matches, Alessandra Maurtua, PGA Assistant Professional at Walden on Lake Conroe and Robert Thompson, PGA Teaching Professional at Whispering Pines Golf Club, will be co-captains of the fifth annual event where they will be defending the cup following STPGA’s 2020 win on November 1-2, 2021 at River Crest Country Club in Fort Worth.
“I’m honored to be picked as a Captain for the Levy Cup Matches. Our industry continues to look for more assistant golf professionals and this event is a perfect showcase of not only what we do to grow the game but also play the game at a high level,” said Maurtua. “I’m excited to keep the cup in Southern Texas!”
Maurtua played in the 2020 Levy Cup Matches with an overall record of 1-2-0. Thompson played in three of the Matches and has an overall record of 3-4-1.
“I am humbled and honored to be named a Captain of the Levy Cup this year,” said Thompson. “I look forward to the camaraderie and spirited competitiveness it brings.”
Lastly, EJ Kim, PGA Teaching Professional at Axis Golf Academy will lead our junior golfers as they compete in the 10th Texas Junior Cup Matches at Sand Hill Farm Golf Course in Waller on September 25-26, 2021.
“I am excited and honored to lead this year’s junior golfers at the Texas Junior Cup,” said Kim. “It is going to be a great event and I look forward to keeping the cup with the STPGA.”
