Southern Texas PGA • November 29, 2022

Name: J.T. Milner

Hometown: Bandera, Texas aka The Cowboy Capital of the World

Began Full Time: June 2022

College/Graduation date: Texas A&M. Finished my undergrad in December of 2020 and my masters in August of 2022. WHOOP!

Major/Minor: Sport Management Major with a minor in Business

Favorite Teams: Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, Detroit Pistons, University of Michigan Football and Basketball as well as Texas A&M athletics.

Favorite food: This is a loaded question as it could go many different ways for me but my top tier of favorite foods consists of chicken parmesan and a classic steak dinner.

Who is your favorite artist: This can depend on the day but usually my rotation consists of Harry Styles, Machine Gun Kelly, Charley Crockett, Turnpike Troubadours, Mt. Joy, Post Malone, Chance the Rapper, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Eminem.

What is your favorite song: Favorite Song all time would be a tie between Rocket Man by Elton John and Marvin Gaye’s rendition of I Heard it Through the Grapevine. My favorite song of 2022 is Daylight by Harry Styles.

Favorite Course you’ve been to: Boot Ranch in Fredericksburg Texas.

What’s your favorite place you played: My favorite round of golf is always the next one because there is no way I could play worse than how I am playing in my current round.

What’s one thing people don’t know about you: When I was really young I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in my left ankle and had to get surgery. Everything is all good now though!

Were you involved in golf before working with the STPGA: No, I golfed casually in high school and college but that was really the extent of my relationship with golf.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off: On a day off I love sleeping in. I also love to attend any sort of music event that might be going on around me. I love checking out thrift shops to see what kind of cool deals I might find. I would like to say that I get caught up on laundry but that pile of clothes in my room that has yet to be folded would tell you otherwise.

What would you sing at karaoke night: This would depend on the vibe of the establishment. You Never Even Called Me by My Name by David Allan Coe, Should’ve Been a Cowboy by Toby Keith and Motivation by Kelly Rowland are all in my repertoire.

What was your first job: I worked at a waterpark as a “pool attendant”.

What’s the farthest you’ve ever been from Texas: Probably Hawaii.

What are some of your favorite hobbies: Fantasy Football probably occupies an unhealthy amount of my time, but it is a great way for me to stay in touch with friends! Shopping is also another hobby of mine. I enjoy trying to piece together my next outfit for whatever event I might have coming up. Most of my time is spent on youtube getting Fantasy Football advice or seeing what the next big men’s fashion trend might be.

What’s your favorite golf memory: The Drive Chip and Putt Regional that was held at Champions Golf Club.

What did you want to be when you were little: Major League Baseball player.

Who is your favorite pga pro? Why?: Kevin Kisner. I love his confidence and his demeanor during PGA tournaments but I also like that he is willing to have a good time outside the tour and not take himself too seriously.. THIS AIN'T NO HOBBY!

What is your favorite sport outside of golf: To play: Baseball. To watch: Football.

What’s your favorite quote: “There are a lot of little reasons why the big things in our life happen” - Ted Mosby

AUSTIN, TEXAS (August 26) — The 2025 TPx Player’s Cup concluded today at Austin Country Club, where the Section’s top professionals battled across two competitive divisions — Senior and Open — for one of the Southern Texas PGA’s most prestigious titles. In the Senior Division, Steve Jurgensen, PGA Teaching Professional at Westwood Golf Club, delivered a wire-to-wire victory, finishing at 3-under-par for the championship after rounds of 69-72. Jurgensen sealed the win in dramatic fashion, rolling in a birdie on the par-5 18th to close out his championship run. Reflecting on the victory, Jurgensen said,

HOUSTON, TEXAS (August 18, 2025) – Mother Nature had different plans at Champions Golf Club, where drawn-out lightning delays ultimately forced the cancellation of Round Two and shortened the 2025 Southern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship to 18 holes. Taking advantage of his strong opening round, Jake Sitterle, Assistant Professional at Lakecliff Country Club, earned the victory with a score of 70 (-1) on the par-71 layout, securing his place at this year’s champion. “This wasn’t the way anyone wanted this championship to end. Gilbert was playing great in the second round, but I am happy I could get the win,” Sitterle reflected. “With how the last major ended, I was always confident in my game and that I could be up at the top, but this field is strong, and I just wish all the guys who qualified the best of luck.” The tournament, hosted at Champions Golf Club, featured over 50 Assistant Professionals from across the Section, competing for qualifying spots into the Assistant PGA Professional Championship, set to be played at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, November 13-16, 2025.

HOUSTON, TX (July 22, 2025) – Omar Uresti, PGA Life Member, claimed victory at the 2025 Southern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship, firing rounds of 67-73–140 ( -4 ) at Bay Oaks Country Club to secure the title of Senior Section Champion. This is Uresti's Fourth Senior Championship, with his last win coming in 2023. This year’s championship served a dual purpose, determining not only the Southern Texas PGA Senior Champion but also acting as the Section’s qualifier for the 2025 Senior PGA Professional Championship, to be held at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, later this fall. "It feels good to come out and get a win against a strong field and a tough golf course. The first round I was hitting good shots and making good putts, but today wasn't the same, and I had to balance my mental game a little bit throughout the ups and downs," said Uresti. In the final round, Uresti needed to battle back after a slow start on the front nine with 3 bogeys, but took the lead with 1 eagle and 2 birdies on the back nine to secure the win. The leaderboard finished with Uresti winning by three over Billy Sitton, PGA Executive from Triumph Golf, and four over Darrell Fuston, PGA General Manager from Westwood Golf Club. Heading into the tournament, Uresti, Robert Thompson, PGA, and Eric Bogar, PGA, were already exempt. The five additional qualifiers are: Billy Sitton, PGA Golf Executive at Triumph Golf Darrell Fuston, PGA General Manager at Westwood Golf Club Darek Franklin, PGA Assistant Professional at Austin Golf Club Steve Jurgensen, PGA Teaching Professional at Westwood Golf Club David von Hoffman, PGA Director of Golf at Spanish Oaks Golf Club
