TEAM STPGA RECLAIMS THE LEVY CUP IN DRAMATIC FASHION!

Southern Texas PGA • November 5, 2025

SPRING, TX (November 5, 2025) – After falling heartbreakingly short one year ago, Team Southern Texas PGA returned to the Levy Cup Matches with one mission: to bring the Cup home. And in one of the most dramatic finishes in event history, they did just that, defeating Team Northern Texas PGA by a single point at Gleneagles Country Club in Plano, Texas.

The 9th playing of the Levy Cup Matches, held November 3–4, featured twelve PGA Professionals from each Section competing across Four-Ball, Foursomes, and Singles Matches in a spirited Ryder Cup–style format.

Last year’s contest ended in disappointment for the Southern Texas Section when severe weather forced the cancellation of the final day of play, leaving Team STPGA behind on points. That unfinished business carried into 2025, especially for Vice-Captain Alan Hodde, PGA Director of Instruction at Axis Golf Academy, who returned determined to lead his team back to victory.

“We’ve been thinking about this one for a year,” said Hodde. “Last year’s ending didn’t sit right with any of us, and the team came in with a lot of heart and focus. Everyone played for each other, and it showed.”

That heart proved to be the difference. After two days of tightly contested play, the Matches came down to the final group on the final holes. With the overall score tied, Rookie Bobby Gates, PGA, Teaching Professional at Summit Golf School, delivered the decisive moment, winning the 17th hole to go 1 Up and secure the clinching point that brought the Levy Cup back to the Southern Texas Section.

“It was an incredible week of golf and camaraderie,” said Team Captain Lonny Alexander, PGA Teaching Professional at Onion Creek Golf Club. “Every player contributed, and to have Bobby close it out in his first appearance, it was a storybook ending. This team earned every single point.”

This year’s team represented a wide range of experience and perspective, blending Levy Cup veterans with first-time competitors. Bobby Gates, Camille Enright, Tyler Gammill, Wes Skaggs, and Chad Donegan each made their debut in the Matches. At the same time, seasoned competitors like Billy Sitton, Omar Uresti, Eric Bogar, and Jesse Droemer brought veteran leadership and composure to the team room. The balance of experience and fresh energy proved key in pushing Team STPGA over the top.

The win marks Team STPGA’s first Levy Cup title since 2020, ending a four-year drought and continuing the event’s tradition of sportsmanship and competitive excellence between the two Sections. With this year’s result, the overall series record now stands at Team STPGA 4 – Team NTPGA 5.
