Wylie and Termeer crowned Co-Champions at the 2022 National Car Rental Southern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship

AUSTIN, TEXAS (August 22, 2022) – Austin Wylie, Assistant Professional at Mac Wylie Golf Center and Tayler Termeer, Assistant Professional at Driftwood Golf & Ranch Club claim the Co-Champion title at the National Car Rental Southern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship after 18 holes at the University of Texas Golf Club. The one-day tournament was shortened from 36 holes to 18 holes due to weather and with Wylie and Termeer’s Round One score of 71 (E), the two took home the shared title. 


With their wins today, Wylie and Termeer will compete in the 46th National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship on Tuesday, November 15 - Sunday, November 20 at PGA Golf Club (Wanamaker Course) in Port St. Lucie, Florida. 


This week’s championship had three qualifying spots and three alternate spots up for grabs for the national event taking place in November. Eric Bogar, PGA Assistant Professional at Golfcrest Country and Dawson Kipniss, PGA Assistant Professional at Pine Forest Country Club will play off at a later date for the last qualifying spot and first alternate spot. Jesse Droemer, PGA Assistant Professional at Lakeside Country Club earned the second alternate spot. Jimmy Anderson, PGA Assistant Professional at River Oaks Country Club, Chris Benestante, Assistant Professional at Spanish Oaks Golf Club, Ben Lake, Assistant Professional at Victoria Country Club, Dylan Rowe, PGA Assistant Professional at Lochinvar Golf Club, Ronnie Fletcher, PGA Assistant Professional at Lakeside Country Club, Marko Lloyd-Varela, PGA Assistant Professional at Driftwood Golf & Ranch Club, and Sean Mullen, PGA Assistant Professional at Georgetown Country Club will also play off on Tuesday, August 30 at University of Texas Golf Club for the last alternate spot. 


The National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship brings together a field of contestants representing the PGA of America’s 41 nationwide Sections. All four rounds will be conducted at PGA Golf Club (Wanamaker Course) with the first cut being made after 36 holes of play and the second cut will be made after 54 holes of play.

AUSTIN, TEXAS (August 26) — The 2025 TPx Player’s Cup concluded today at Austin Country Club, where the Section’s top professionals battled across two competitive divisions — Senior and Open — for one of the Southern Texas PGA’s most prestigious titles. In the Senior Division, Steve Jurgensen, PGA Teaching Professional at Westwood Golf Club, delivered a wire-to-wire victory, finishing at 3-under-par for the championship after rounds of 69-72. HOUSTON, TEXAS (August 18, 2025) – Mother Nature had different plans at Champions Golf Club, where drawn-out lightning delays ultimately forced the cancellation of Round Two and shortened the 2025 Southern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship to 18 holes. Taking advantage of his strong opening round, Jake Sitterle, Assistant Professional at Lakecliff Country Club, earned the victory with a score of 70 (-1) on the par-71 layout, securing his place at this year’s champion. “This wasn’t the way anyone wanted this championship to end. Gilbert was playing great in the second round, but I am happy I could get the win,” Sitterle reflected. “With how the last major ended, I was always confident in my game and that I could be up at the top, but this field is strong, and I just wish all the guys who qualified the best of luck.” The tournament, hosted at Champions Golf Club, featured over 50 Assistant Professionals from across the Section, competing for qualifying spots into the Assistant PGA Professional Championship, set to be played at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, November 13-16, 2025.

HOUSTON, TX (July 22, 2025) – Omar Uresti, PGA Life Member, claimed victory at the 2025 Southern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship, firing rounds of 67-73–140 ( -4 ) at Bay Oaks Country Club to secure the title of Senior Section Champion. This is Uresti's Fourth Senior Championship, with his last win coming in 2023. This year’s championship served a dual purpose, determining not only the Southern Texas PGA Senior Champion but also acting as the Section’s qualifier for the 2025 Senior PGA Professional Championship, to be held at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, later this fall. "It feels good to come out and get a win against a strong field and a tough golf course. The first round I was hitting good shots and making good putts, but today wasn't the same, and I had to balance my mental game a little bit throughout the ups and downs," said Uresti. In the final round, Uresti needed to battle back after a slow start on the front nine with 3 bogeys, but took the lead with 1 eagle and 2 birdies on the back nine to secure the win. The leaderboard finished with Uresti winning by three over Billy Sitton, PGA Executive from Triumph Golf, and four over Darrell Fuston, PGA General Manager from Westwood Golf Club. Heading into the tournament, Uresti, Robert Thompson, PGA, and Eric Bogar, PGA, were already exempt.
