Barry Conser Crowned Champion of the 25th Energy Transfer Texas Senior Open

Southern Texas PGA • October 29, 2021

MONT BELVIEU, TX – Barry Conser of Scottsdale, Arizona claimed the Championship title at the 25th Energy Transfer Texas Senior Open presented by S & B, Vortech Contracting, and the City of Mont Belvieu with rounds of 73-67 for a 36-hole score of 2-under for a two-day total of 140.

“I started a little slow the first day, but it was playing tough, so I told myself to just hang in there,” said Conser. “I was 3-over after 6, and to just get it back to 2-over for round one was a solid round. I knew if I could be within four shots, I had a chance.”

The par 4 16th played as the toughest hole throughout the championship, averaging a full stroke over par. In the final round, Conser made a long 30-foot putt for birdie to secure his lead.

“This is one of the best fields, if not the best field of any senior state open in the country. Winning this event is an incredible feeling,” said Conser.

The usual 54-hole tournament was shortened to 36-holes after receiving over 1.5 inches of rain on Wednesday making the course unplayable for round one. Special thanks goes to Jeff Wilson Superintendent and Scott Olsen, PGA Head Professional, for getting the course back in championship conditions come Thursday morning.

When play resumed on Thursday, conditions were challenging with winds up to 40 miles per hour and today’s round saw similar conditions. The course played over 4 strokes more difficult this year compared to last year.

Bob Flanagan of Lawrenceville, Georgia captured the Super Senior Division title after finishing with a 36-hole total of 150 (+8).

“I’m on a roll. I was the Low Professional in the Super Senior division at the Yamaha Georgia Senior Open, and then more recently won the Veterans Division at the STPGA Senior Series Tour Championship,” said Flanagan. “I am just glad that Texas lets me play.”

Following round one of the Super Senior Division, Flanagan led the field by 3 strokes at 2-over-par and was comfortably leading the Championship throughout round-2. However, it became close on the last hole when Flanagan made double-bogey to win by 1-stroke over Chuck Moran from Marshalltown, Iowa.

Low Amateur honors were also awarded today at the Senior Open. Chad Branton of Cartersville, Georgia won this award by shooting 149 (+7) in the 36-hole Championship.

The 25th Energy Transfer Texas Senior Open was contested at Eagle Pointe Golf Club, a 6,740-yard par 71 course in Mont Belvieu, Texas. This is the eighth year in a row Eagle Pointe has hosted this prestigious event.

A field of 120 players from 20 different states and two countries competed for the two division titles. Due to its high entry demand, the Energy Transfer Texas Senior Open started a priority entry process this year and will continue to do that moving forward to ensure the event remains the best in the country. This year’s event featured the largest overall purse money in the country at $84,500.

Thank you to Energy Transfer for their title sponsorship and S & B, Vortech Contracting and the City of Mont Belvieu for being the presenting sponsors. The 26th Energy Transfer Texas Senior Open will take place back at Eagle Pointe on October 19th – 21st, 2022.

AUSTIN, TEXAS (August 26) — The 2025 TPx Player’s Cup concluded today at Austin Country Club, where the Section’s top professionals battled across two competitive divisions — Senior and Open — for one of the Southern Texas PGA’s most prestigious titles. In the Senior Division, Steve Jurgensen, PGA Teaching Professional at Westwood Golf Club, delivered a wire-to-wire victory, finishing at 3-under-par for the championship after rounds of 69-72. Jurgensen sealed the win in dramatic fashion, rolling in a birdie on the par-5 18th to close out his championship run. Reflecting on the victory, Jurgensen said,

HOUSTON, TEXAS (August 18, 2025) – Mother Nature had different plans at Champions Golf Club, where drawn-out lightning delays ultimately forced the cancellation of Round Two and shortened the 2025 Southern Texas Assistant PGA Professional Championship to 18 holes. Taking advantage of his strong opening round, Jake Sitterle, Assistant Professional at Lakecliff Country Club, earned the victory with a score of 70 (-1) on the par-71 layout, securing his place at this year’s champion. “This wasn’t the way anyone wanted this championship to end. Gilbert was playing great in the second round, but I am happy I could get the win,” Sitterle reflected. “With how the last major ended, I was always confident in my game and that I could be up at the top, but this field is strong, and I just wish all the guys who qualified the best of luck.” The tournament, hosted at Champions Golf Club, featured over 50 Assistant Professionals from across the Section, competing for qualifying spots into the Assistant PGA Professional Championship, set to be played at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, November 13-16, 2025.

HOUSTON, TX (July 22, 2025) – Omar Uresti, PGA Life Member, claimed victory at the 2025 Southern Texas Senior PGA Professional Championship, firing rounds of 67-73–140 ( -4 ) at Bay Oaks Country Club to secure the title of Senior Section Champion. This is Uresti's Fourth Senior Championship, with his last win coming in 2023. This year’s championship served a dual purpose, determining not only the Southern Texas PGA Senior Champion but also acting as the Section’s qualifier for the 2025 Senior PGA Professional Championship, to be held at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, later this fall. "It feels good to come out and get a win against a strong field and a tough golf course. The first round I was hitting good shots and making good putts, but today wasn't the same, and I had to balance my mental game a little bit throughout the ups and downs," said Uresti. In the final round, Uresti needed to battle back after a slow start on the front nine with 3 bogeys, but took the lead with 1 eagle and 2 birdies on the back nine to secure the win. The leaderboard finished with Uresti winning by three over Billy Sitton, PGA Executive from Triumph Golf, and four over Darrell Fuston, PGA General Manager from Westwood Golf Club. Heading into the tournament, Uresti, Robert Thompson, PGA, and Eric Bogar, PGA, were already exempt. The five additional qualifiers are: Billy Sitton, PGA Golf Executive at Triumph Golf Darrell Fuston, PGA General Manager at Westwood Golf Club Darek Franklin, PGA Assistant Professional at Austin Golf Club Steve Jurgensen, PGA Teaching Professional at Westwood Golf Club David von Hoffman, PGA Director of Golf at Spanish Oaks Golf Club
