Edwards Claims Veterans Division Title at 23rd Lone Star NGL Texas Senior Open

Southern Texas PGA • November 7, 2019

This marks the second consecutive year that Danny Edwards has claimed the Veterans Division Title.

MONT BELVIEU, TX—Danny Edwards of Wellington, Florida captured the Veterans Division title for the second consecutive year at the 23rd Lone Star NGL Texas Senior Open, presented by S & B Engineers and Constructors and Vortech Contracting, finishing with a 36-hole total of 141 (-1).

“It’s nice to repeat,” said Edwards. “It’s hard enough to win one, and it’s even tougher to win two, so I feel pretty good. I didn’t play very well yesterday, but today I had a really good round, especially on the front side. It was great to finish up and shoot a pretty good tournament score.”

Following Round 1 of the Veterans Division, David Lundstrom of Houston, Texas led the division with a score of 70 (-1), leaving Edwards trailing behind by 3 strokes. Today, during Round 2, Edwards opened up his front 9 with 4 birdies giving him the lead. Edwards made his final birdie of the day on the 11th hole and finished the round 3-under par.

“It’s always nice to come back to Eagle Pointe and play in this event. The Southern Texas PGA does a very nice job running this event and guys come from all over the country—It’s one of the best State Senior Opens in the Country,” said Edwards. “I look forward to it. I’ve got a lot of friends out here that I’ve gotten to know through the years.”

With his Veterans Division win, Edwards is leaving Mont Belvieu with a crystal trophy and $2,000 in winnings.

Play during Round 2 of the Senior Division of the Lone Star NGL Texas Senior Open was suspended this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. due to inclement weather in the area. At 3:00 p.m. the Committee decided that play would be suspended until Friday morning.

Round 2 of the Senior Division will resume tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. and will be contested as a 36-hole competition.

The 23rd Lone Star NGL Texas Senior Open is being contested at Eagle Pointe Golf Club, a 6,740-yard par 71 course in Mont Belvieu, Texas. This is the sixth year in a row Eagle Pointe has hosted this event.

Revenue Milestone: We surpassed $8.7 million in revenue for 2025, marking a 55% increase since 2021. National Standing: The STPGA is now the 3rd largest operation out of the 41 PGA Sections—a remarkable feat considering we rank 11th in total membership. Reserve Fund: Our financial success has allowed us to establish a conservatively invested reserve fund. This provides a safety net for unforeseen circumstances and the flexibility to expand our staff, enhance our programs, and capitalize on future opportunities. A Roadmap for the Future We were thrilled to unveil our finalized Vision, Mission, and Strategic Pillars . It has been several years since this foundational document was updated, and these pillars will now serve as the compass for all annual planning and goal setting.
