Staff Spotlight featuring Assistant Executive Director Scott Archer, PGA

Southern Texas PGA • October 4, 2021

Name: Scott Archer

Hometown: Sour Lake, TX

Began Full Time: March 2018

College: Sam Houston State University - December 2013

Major: Bachelor of Business Administration in General Business with a concentration in PGA Golf Management

Favorite Teams: Texans, Astros, Cowboys

Favorite Food: Ribeye Steak

Who is your favorite artist: Difficult question as music goes through stages! Currently my favorite is Five Finger Death Punch. I got to see them in Corpus Christi in fall 2019 and they were amazing.

What is your favorite song: Impossible question. Pre-workout jam = Falling in Reverse – Raised by Wolves. Lynrd Skynrd – I need You. Pretty much anything on Linkin Park Hybrid Theory.

Favorite Course you’ve been to: I have to stay true to my roots and say Idylwild Golf Club that I grew up on. There’s always a better condition course out there no matter where you play, but nowhere will hold as many great memories and a piece of my heart like Idylwild.

What’s your favorite place you played: I won a Winter Series event for the Northern Texas PGA at Keeton Park golf course with I believe a 68 (-4). I’ve gone lower several times but that one sticks out as it’s my only professional win. Wish I could play 5 rounds a week like back in college and be a player again!

What’s one thing people don’t know about you: I ran a half marathon when I was in the Fighting Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets, and at some point during the run, stress fractured my right foot. Didn’t know until I woke up the next morning limping. I also ran a Spartan Sprint at AT&T Stadium with my brother in Dallas.

Were you involved in golf before working with the STPGA: I worked for the Northern Texas PGA for 5 years, was an Assistant Golf Professional at Walden on Lake Conroe for 2.5 years, worked at Golf World Stroudsburg for a year, worked various capacities including cart staff, maintenance, and shop staff at Idylwild Golf Club for 5 years, and worked various food & beverage jobs throughout including Walden on Lake Conroe Café on the Green, Idylwild Golf Club 19th Hole, and IHOP.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off: Playing golf at Tomball Country Club, taking care of my lawn, or going to for a hike in the State/National forests.

What would you sing at karaoke night: Well, I wouldn’t. Nobody needs to be subjected to me singing karaoke haha. If I had to though, more than likely Simple Man by Skynrd.

What was your first job: Cart staff at Idylwild Golf Club.

What’s the farthest you’ve ever been from Texas: I lived in Pennsylvania for a year from 2005-06.

What are some of your favorite hobbies: Tennis, fishing, pool, corn hole, reading, hiking, swimming, & video games. I also got big into weightlifting/cross fit for a couple of years, really need to get back to that.

What’s your favorite golf memory: Winning the member-guest with my dad after I went to college. 100% the best golf I’ve ever played. We shot 67-65 to win and much of that was my ball. Pretty funny that we both knocked it OB on the starting hole both rounds and I saved bogey both days!

What did you want to be when you were little: I wanted to serve in our military or police force.

What is your greatest accomplishment/what are you most proud of: Becoming a PGA Member and recently buying my first home.

Who is your favorite PGA TOUR Pro? why?: Tiger Woods – pretty sure that’s everyone’s answer who grew up in the Tiger era. Other than that, I like Bryson because he’s challenging the way the game is played and looking for the innovative edge, and Kevin Kisner, because there’s a lot to be said about a guy who goes out there each week and makes checks without being in the limelight a lot.

What is your favorite sport outside of golf: Tennis is my second sport, although its been a few years since I’ve gotten out and played. Close second would be rec league softball.

What’s your favorite quote: One of my favorite people is General George “Mad Dog” Mattis, and he said something that is very true of how to carry yourself and be situationally aware at all times. “Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everyone you meet.”

STPGA 2026 Q1 UPDATE Record Growth & Our Roadmap Ahead Dear STPGA Members and Associates, We recently kicked off 2026 with our first Board Meeting and Annual Meeting in San Antonio. It was inspiring to see over 200 members in attendance for what was a productive and insightful few days. As we look toward the year ahead, I am proud to share some significant highlights regarding our Section’s health and future direction. Exceptional Financial Growth During the Annual Meeting, we reported our 2025 year-end financials, and I am pleased to confirm that the STPGA remains in excellent financial condition. Revenue Milestone: We surpassed $8.7 million in revenue for 2025, marking a 55% increase since 2021. National Standing: The STPGA is now the 3rd largest operation out of the 41 PGA Sections—a remarkable feat considering we rank 11th in total membership. Reserve Fund: Our financial success has allowed us to establish a conservatively invested reserve fund. This provides a safety net for unforeseen circumstances and the flexibility to expand our staff, enhance our programs, and capitalize on future opportunities. A Roadmap for the Future We were thrilled to unveil our finalized Vision, Mission, and Strategic Pillars . It has been several years since this foundational document was updated, and these pillars will now serve as the compass for all annual planning and goal setting.

On behalf of your Board of Directors, the STPGA would like to make you aware of a program that will commence on January 1, 2026 for all Level 1 Associates. Starting in 2026, the STPGA will be running virtual Associate Orientations for all Associates who are either in Level 1 or joined the program after January 1, 2026. The goal of the Orientation will be to educate you on the STPGA, create a networking opportunity, but most importantly, motivate you about the industry and the PGA of America Membership. The STPGA will run 11 of these throughout the year. During the Orientation, all attendees must satisfy the requirements below to receive credit for attendance: · Join the Google Meet within five (5) minutes of the scheduled start time · Have their camera on for the entirety of the presentation · Introduce themselves during the introduction portion of the Orientation PGA of America Level 1 Associates must complete this orientation prior to participating in any Southern Texas PGA Tournament or Social Function starting in 2026. We wanted to start to make you aware of this now so that you are prepared come 2026. The STPGA will be having at least 2 of these orientations in March for any Level 1 Associate already in the program and has not advanced to Level 2, so that you can still participate in all events in 2026! Please note: This policy begins with the Pro-Pro Champ in March. For any event in January and February, Level 1 Associates can participate without attending an orientation, as our first orientation isn't until March. Click here for the full outline of the program, view all eleven dates that an orientation will be hosted, and the landing page with more information accessible to you. The STPGA continues to look for ways to better our association, engage with the next PGA Member, and showcase the value of being a PGA Member. Please let us know if you have any questions and thank you in advance for your support.
